Devotional | Our Only Option

What are you trusting in?

“Since you trusted in your deeds and your riches, you too will be taken captive.” ( Jeremiah 48:7 NIV).

The Lord wants us to trust in only one thing, and that is in Him. When we trust in anything or anyone else, we allow ourselves to be taken captive by the enemy. It is easy to put our trust in the wrong things, to look to every other options in our time of trouble, before we finally seek the Lord. He desires to become our only option.

I remember a time a few years ago when we were travelling as a family to Florida. It was the winter and the heater was broken in our car. We were in Mississippi on an interstate highway and the car broke down. We pulled over to the side and covered ourselves as best as we could to try and stay warm. My husband stood by the car in order to wave down someone to help us. This was before the day of cell phones. We waited for at least a couple of hours and no one would stop.

Finally, we decided to pray. I don’t know why we didn’t try that in the first place. So we prayed, and within two minutes a car pulled over to help us. The woman in the car drove us to the nearest town, took us to a hotel and we were able to minister to her about some very serious things she was going through. Through this, God revealed to us that He needs to become “our only option”, not our last resort. I wish I could say I learned my lesson that day, but I still continue, at times, (actually quite often) to forget to seek Him first.

We need to ask ourselves, “What am I trusting in?” The answer to that really comes to the forefront when we are confronted with hard times. Is our first thought, how can I get out of this or why God are you doing this to me? Or does our first plan of action begin as we seek His face, trusting that He will work things out in His good plan and timing.

Why not let God be your first resort and allow Him be your only option?
