Devotional | Unrelenting Hope

Trusting in His promise to faithfully lead you within every situation.

Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad — for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. ( 1 Peter 4:12-13 NIV)

Without a doubt, there are challenges we face throughout our lives. When challenges come our way how can we therefore deal with what appears to be a roadblock?

In the midst of a struggle, our perspective can become tainted. What once seemed easy to believe suddenly becomes difficult. Peter instructs us to rejoice even in the midst of a challenge. He states we are to be thankful for the testing because it leads to a building of good character (becoming like Jesus). If Peter is clearly suggesting that we are to face the struggle rather than complain and or ignore what is in front of us, what is stopping us and how can we overcome?

As followers of Jesus we have been given the gift of grace, and along with the gift, is Holy Spirit who comforts and instructs us. If Holy Spirit lives on the inside of you and I, we do not need to fear being incapable. Jesus walked in partnership with Holy Spirit, He was not dependent on Himself, rather He lived listening to Holy Spirit’s direction and depending on Him.

The exciting news is that we have received the same authority as Jesus, since Holy Spirit is living on the inside of you and I. When obstacles arise at first glance, it may appear impossible, yet remember Holy Spirit will lead you. Jesus is inviting us to rest in His arms when struggles arise, He desires for our burdens to be taken from us, it is what He died for. We can rest in knowing that He is our safety, and Holy Spirit is our teacher.

In the midst of a struggle, we have the choice to make whether we will rely on His faithfulness or depend on our own way of thinking. Regardless of the circumstances we face here on earth, God does not change, He remains the same. Therefore, God who is love does not desire for us to be left alone in the dirt when we are faced with a difficult circumstance. He is calling us to Him for it is His desire to be our helper and the lifter of our head, it is who He is.

God who is the creator, chooses to be on on our side, He is with us through the bumps in the road and never fails to love us through every circumstance. Why not take the step of faith in surrendering your obstacles at His feet? Chose to trust that He is faithful. Although surrender may not immediately be in response to a feeling you first received, the act of surrender and choosing to trust God produces in you greater faith. Faith is what leads us into sustaining our passion even within the obstacles.

Psalm 136:12 states, "With a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever" (NIV). God is therefore continually reaching out, offering His hand as a representation of His love and faithfulness to His children. During a difficult circumstance, why not choose to place your hand into His because He is waiting for you.
