Freedom Behind Bars
Prisoners freed by the Father's love.
My name is Lucas Shiflet, I am the Young Adult Pastor for Catch The Fire Houston, and I work day to day with Catch The Fire School of Fire. Our mission statement here in Houston is identical to the Toronto Campus, “To walk in God's love, then give it away to Houston, then the world.” Over the years we have been going to a few different prisons, as well as lately a juvenile detention center. We have had the pleasure of having Trisha Frost and Peter Jackson minister in the prisons along with us,which is still being talked about. Every Tuesday we bring a team from our church and school to the prison to fellowship with worship, teaching, DVDs, and small groups centered on the Father heart.
“The men no longer appear tough. Rather, they look like little boys who need love, and now they are finally receiving it.”
If only you could see the faces of the men, a before and after picture. When we first entered the room it was filled with tough men, walls up, full of hurt, shame, abandonment, etc. However, now when we walk in on Tuesday we receive a standing ovation and honor from the men. The men no longer appear tough. Rather, they look like little boys who need love, and now they are finally receiving it. Week after week we witness testimonies of heart healing. Men are in tears while forgiving their fathers and mothers for the first time, and also forgiving themselves in order to become sons. Additionally, we have had nights of prophesying over the men, as well as praying for physical healing.
A recent testimony we have heard is about a man who came to us before the service saying that he had pain in his side. The doctors had diagnosed him with stomach cancer. We prayed for a few seconds and he then began to feel a warmth enter his body. We had interviewed him afterwards he said the pain was absolutely gone, this same man was healed again a few weeks later from his bleeding gums. Not only was the pain gone, but when they went and took another test, the doctors discovered that the cancer had left as well.
“We leave filled with life and love for every one of the individuals.”
We are now bringing into the juvenile detention center what we have been doing at the prison. We have been to the center for just a few weeks and we have already seen astonishing change among the young people. The youth are in tears as they receive the Father's love and prophetic words from our School of Fire students. It is an honor to be able to receive his love and freely give it away, and to be honest, at times we feel as though we receive more out of our time than they do. We leave filled with life and love for every one of the individuals (it is addicting).
They say that you can be free but in prison, and you can be in prison and be free, and these individuals truly are free. They are sons and daughters with a Father who loves them, and they know it.
