An Open Invitation
Are you willing to say yes to the open invitation God has for you?
God has called us to build a place of rest within our inner self and this place of rest begins with sitting at the feet of Jesus; choosing to listen to His heartbeat. It is God’s desire for His children to be available as His vessel, where our hearts break for what breaks His. The House of Prayer movement has allowed this to become a lifestyle in many people’s lives. An environment that encourages the hearts of God’s children to rest in the secret place with their Father, to discover what God desires to see transformed among the nations.
“God spoke clearly to me.”
Personally, it has been during my time spent in the House of Prayer where I have received various revelations through responding to God’s invitation to partner with Him. God spoke clearly to me while I chose to position myself before Him with an open and keen heart.
I have been to four Houses of Prayer located in different countries, and the one thing that I noticed within in each House of Prayer is the presence of the Lord. I recall experiencing His tangible presence as Holy Spirit is continually welcomed into the atmosphere. I believe that God is not only calling us to pray and experience His presence within a building, but He also desires His children to become His house of prayer.
“Devoted hearts and open ears draw in the whisper of the Father’s voice”
The House of Prayer has allowed Holy Spirit and the heart of the Father to move freely within a peaceful environment. “I felt the emotions of God, that I could actually converse with Him, and He really loves me,” Sarah Sun Kim, 32, Vice President of the International House of Prayer University, quoted in Erick Eckholm’s article, “Where Worship never Pauses”.
Devoted hearts and open ears draw in the whisper of the Father’s voice so His children can come into agreement with His heart. The House of Prayer movement has awakened in hearts the importance of cultivating an intimate relationship with God. The choice of partnering with Him in prayer has allowed His spirit to move among the nations.
“The atmosphere encourages hearts to be open and willing”
A House of Prayer encourages the pursuit for God’s presence to become a lifestyle. The atmosphere encourages hearts to be open and willing to hear the voice of the Father. In essence, a House of Prayer is a meeting devoted to intercession and partnering with the heart of God. A prayer set commonly begins with worship to usher in His presence. Worship can include ‘worship with the Word’, which refers to the reading of Bible verses along with the worship being sung. Since a House of Prayer is devoted to intercession, an hour of each set is committed to praying for justice issues among the nations, and anything else the Father is leading hearts to pray for at that time.
In this day and age, there are various Houses of Prayer located throughout the world. The International House of Prayer, founded by Mike Bickle, began within Kansas City and has grown vastly. 24/7 worship and prayer began within Kansas City during September 1999. The inspiration for continued prayer and worship was inspired by David Yonggi Cho, the pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea, who began Prayer Mountain, a retreat center dedicated to night and day prayer.
“The prayer movement has encouraged a lifestyle of prayer and fasting to draw hearts to seek first the kingdom.”
The International House of Prayer has now expanded to a larger building which was once a strip mall. The impact that the International House of Prayer has brought, not only within Kansas City but across the nations as well, has encouraged other intercessors and worshipers to begin Houses of Prayer within their own communities.
For example, at Catch The Fire located in Toronto, the house of prayer began in September of last year. Although the House of Prayer does not run 24/7, the church has committed to two hours sets four days a week. The House of Prayer movement has brought hearts to be focused on what the Father is speaking.
“Prayer draws our hearts to be still before God.”
Houses of Prayer have not only expanded to be located within larger communities such as Catch The Fire, but also within smaller communities. The movement has encouraged a lifestyle of prayer and fasting to draw hearts to seek first the Kingdom. Prayer is a form of partnership with the heart of our Father and therefore the House of Prayer has highlighted to God's children the invitation to pursue His heart. “We as God’s children are handing over what is His, back to Him, and expressing it out loud. The House of Prayer has given God a leeway to move through the city and do what it is that He desires,” says Gina DeVito, 19, a local House of Prayer intercessor.
“We are given the opportunity to partner with God to witness and experience His Glory manifested.”
Prayer draws our hearts to be set on things above rather than what surrounds us on a daily basis here on earth. Therefore, prayer draws our hearts to be still before God to hear the whisper of His voice. The House of Prayer is an environment that encourages dedication and devotion to the heart of Jesus. We are given the opportunity to partner with God to witness and experience His Glory manifested throughout the nations.
“Jesus demonstrates to us how we are to pray.”
God has chosen to be in relationship with His children and we have been given the choice to respond to His invitation. The House of Prayer demonstrates our role as God's vessel; however, we have the decision to make whether or not we desire to make ourselves available. As God's children we have the opportunity to partner with Him and to hear His voice. God has given us the ability of either saying yes or no to His leading. Holy Spirit allows us to hear the voice of our Father and draws us into communication with Him. The House of Prayer is a response to God's invitation to partner with Him in calling home His lost bride.
“God will use you to impact the nations.”
Your prayers can change and impact this world; God is faithful to His word and promises. Jesus prayed to His father in confidence without doubting that His voice was heard by Him. Jesus demonstrates to us how we are to pray to our Father as well. He was led by Holy Spirit in all that He did; we are to follow the leading of Holy Spirit while praying, by speaking what we hear God say.
We are to carry His presence, while praying and without stopping, by living in the understanding that wherever we step foot, His house follows. His house refers to His kingdom and we are to essentially pray, “Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” God will use you to impact the nations as His vessel.
Are you willing to invite Holy Spirit to find His home in you?
