Devotional | Stir up the Gift

"Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands." (2 Timothy 1:6 NKJV)

How can we stir up the gifts within us?

At some point we must move from a place of receiving prophetic words and knowing about the gifts of God to living and walking in them. Stirring up the gifts God has given us includes praying for them to be flowing in our lives, declaring them (Job 22:28), exercising the gifts we have and stepping out in faith. As a wise person once said, faith is spelled R-I-S-K. Step out of your comfort zone and exercise gifts given to you. If you don't know what gifts you posses, try some different things. I laughed when I heard Joyce Meyer say she knew working in the children's ministry at church was not her thing when she not only had no grace for it but also was asked by the director not to return. She realized she was good at talking and later found out she was a mouth in the body of Christ. The Lord has used her to preach extensively on TV, radio and on stages around the world.

When my husband and I received lots of prophetic words about being pastors, the Lord showed me I needed to call in those prophetic words using the power of the tongue, the power of declaration (Proverbs 18:21). Six months of daily declaring that my husband was a pastor and the Lord would open doors for ministry for us, it happened. I learned I had a part to play in the fulfillment of the words. I needed to 'stir up' the gifts within us.

Write out some gifts you know you have or you would like to walk in. Start declaring them. Start exercising them.
