Devotional | Use What You Have
"Then Moses answered and said, "But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, 'The Lord has not appeared to you.'" So the Lord said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod." And He said, "Cast it on the ground." So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it." (Exodus 4:1-3 NKJV)
Have you ever said, like Moses, "But God..."?
We often have excuses for why we think we are not the right ones for a certain job. We can disqualify ourselves, thinking there are others more gifted or better qualified. Yet the Lord, all the while, is beckoning us to use what we have. Moses had a rod in his hand. It became a sign and a wonder. Sometimes in asking us, "What is that in your hand?" God may be nudging us to give that offering, speak up to our neighbour, use our baking skills to bless a hungry friend who doesn't have the time to cook in a crisis, or use that mechanical skill to fix a single Mom's car. Who would have ever thought Jesus would feed 5,000 with a little lad's lunch?
Instead of looking at what we don't have, how about looking at what we do have and give it as an offering to the Lord. Watch Him do something supernatural with it!
