The Girl in Chains
The slave trade was something I learned about in school. The teacher told me and my classmates that it happened between the 16th and 19th century. We learned of the atrocious actions of man, the dehumanizing of millions and the incomprehensible pain people went through. Above all, we learnt that it was over.
My teacher never told me there are more people bound by slavery today than there was then, even though slavery is now outlawed in every country. Either she had no idea about this reality or felt it would dampen the teaching on the “abolishment of slavery”.
About a year ago I had a conversation with my big Sister, Hannah. She is incredibly well informed about the Sex Slave Trade. Our conversation completely stunned, humbled and broke my heart for the cause.
I knew the goal wasn't simply to raise awareness
I have been writing for as long as I can remember. I wrote rhymes before I even knew they were rhymes; they were just words that fit together in a way that exited my soul. I have always had a deep desire to write messages. Messages like the ‘message in a bottle’: written and then released, destined to turn up on some distant shore, received by a stranger who is the very person whom it was written for.
The video is from a messenger
It wasn’t long after my conversation with Hannah that I started to pen ‘The Girl in Chains’. The lyrics came quickly, they often do, but when I feel like what I’m writing could actually change something, they can’t come quick enough!
After I had finished the narrative about a girl who is captured and forced into prostitution I knew I wasn’t finished. I knew the goal wasn't simply to raise awareness, it was to pass on the very real conviction that I felt simply by knowing about the reality. I had been awakened to the revelation that this entire industry, which enslaves 27 million people, 50% of which are children, was born out of, and supplied by, the very heart of man. It’s simple logic: cut out the consumer and you cut out the supplier and their ability to trade. If we can approach the situation not with numbing numbers and statistics but a very real emotional and rational realization that we, are connected with the situation, I believe we’ll see change.
It’s Satan’s strategy to rob every man of his sense of self control and ability to honour and act righteously.
The latter half of the video is simply trying to convey the message that the same destructive and self absorbed lust that enables a man to log onto a porn site is the same lust that enables a man to take a thirteen year old girl to bed with him.
We need to wake up to that reality. They are one and the same. Intense, I know, but it’s Satan’s strategy to rob every man of his sense of self control and ability to honour and act righteously.
I am standing on the modern day podium of YouTube shouting as loud as I possibly can
The video is from a messenger, not a ministry or even a anti slavery campaign. Since the video was released we have been supported by Rob Morris, founder of LOVE146, an incredible organization battling against the industry from the front line.
I hooked up with the insanely talented film maker, photographer and all round genius Sidney Diongzon to make the film. His talent in film making as well as passion to see the Kingdom of God invade this industry with love and power made the whole processes an incredible experience.
I am merely standing on the modern day podium of YouTube shouting as loud as I possibly can. It has never been about numbers for us, but the fact the video has had nearly 10,000 views in little over a week, means that I know our voice is being heard!
