History Makers | A Vision of the John the Baptist Generation

"I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.” (1 John 2:14)

What a wonderful word John left us! In fact, he never gave another word like it to anyone else. It’s a specific revelation to us young people! God, in this last time, is calling a courageous young army to gather in His final harvest, “Young men, I write to you because you have already beaten the evil one!” The power to have victory is waiting for us.

The devil also is aware of this word and knows that when this generation takes its place in Jesus, he will be defeated. For this reason, he has invested so much to try to defeat us. Indeed, God is preparing a generation that knows the strength of His power. They are young and do not love their own lives and the world’s pleasures. On the contrary, they love God above all things. They are hungry believers wanting more and more from Him.

I believe that God is coming back to the church to revive us. I believe that we will experience an incredible outpouring of His Spirit on all flesh, inside and outside of our meetings in a way that we have never experienced before. We will have a strong sense of His presence. He promised in His word, and it is already happening in some parts of the world. When Jesus comes, you don’t have to say, God is here or there. Everybody knows when He is home, and when He comes, anything can happen. Revival is not a manifestation, or salvation, or laughing, or crying. You find all of these in revival, but revival is a person, the person of Jesus Christ.

Revival is the manifestation of His presence.

So during these days, God is calling a generation to prepare the way of the Lord, to prepare for Him to come with His kingdom and rule in the midst of His people. This generation is the “John the Baptist Generation,” a generation of young people who are thirsty for God’s presence and who are willing to do anything to see God’s will fulfilled. I once heard Lou Engle say, “...These holy lovers denied themselves the legitimate pleasures of this life for the extreme pleasure of knowing God”. This is the generation that God will use and possess.

In the Bible we can find three characteristics that the John the Baptist generation will possess. In Luke 1:17 the angel talks about who John the Baptist will be, and he says, “He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

In the same way, this generation will “turn the hearts of the fathers to the children”. We have the responsibility to bring restoration to families. The time is gone when the parents come to the pastor asking prayer for the children. We are living in a time where the children will live a life with such depth in the Lord that the children will bring restoration to their parents. They will be the connection between their fathers and mothers. So take your responsibility and start to honor and obey your parents.

The Bible also said that John the Baptist would “turn the disobedient to the wisdom of the just”. This generation will have a fire in their hearts to see the ones who don’t know God become sons. The young people will be in the front of the battle to reach this world. The Apostle John says later in the New Testament, “You have overcome the wicked one.”

These Parents have the desire to be like their children.

This generation will also “make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” When the angel, Gabriel, was speaking to Zacharias and prophesying about whom John the Baptist was to be, he said “make ready a people.” This people to whom the angel refers is the church, the bride, the people of the Lord. This bride will fulfill Ephesians 5:27, “...That He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” (NKJV)

This generation will have a lifestyle of holiness which comes from a life of intimacy with Him. These are young people who want to be holy not because they have to, but because they have an earnest desire to be like their Heavenly Father. The Church will look at these youth and young adults and will desire to be like them.

We live in the state of Rio Grande de Sul, Brazil, the southernmost area of Brazil. It is a region with many immigrants from Italy and Germany, and our culture is somewhat different from the rest of the country. For this reason, some things are happening here in a different way than in other parts of our country.

We are seeing a huge harvest in Brazil during these days.

It is normal for you to find churches with 10,000, 40,000, or 700,000 members in some parts of Brazil, but in our state it is not like this. Do you know why? The reason is that the people believe that they don’t need God. They have money enough to live, good weather, a sophisticated European culture and a million other reasons to say no to God.

In the middle of this, in 2002, God put on our hearts a desire to sponsor a youth conference. He spoke to us that He will raise up the next generation to bring back our state to Him. The name of the conference is “The History Makers Conference”, because we really believe that God is calling our young people during these days, to write a new page of history for our nation. The young person today is not here to be “a normal person.”

Since we have begun sponsoring History Makers, we have been seeing this generation that we are talking about in this article be raised up. Today our conference is attended by more than 2,000 youth and young adults who come from different parts of Brazil with a huge hunger and go home to change their churches and their cities.

Six young adults came to the History Maker’s conference recently, and God touched them in such a powerful way that they went back to their city totally changed. At home they each started spending more than two hours per day before the Lord. They started to honor and obey their parents more than before. During the service in their local traditional church, they were different in the way that they worshipped God.

They were so intent on worshipping with their whole hearts that manifestations started to happen in the middle of the service. These things never happened in that congregation before and some people in the church tried to make them stop, but the parents said, “Please, don’t do that. God is moving with them, and we want to be like them.”

Wow! The word that God gave us in the beginning is coming to pass over them. These parents have the desire to be like their children. Soon their entire church began to desire the same things that those six young adults had, and now the whole church is on fire. The services of the church never end, and many of the people need to be carried out of the church to their cars, drunk in the Spirit. The pastor has the responsibility over 22 other congregations and today, 17 of those are experiencing the same fire! This church has started to influence the whole city, and this city is one of the most important cities in our state.

After this, they invited me to preach in one of their conferences, and I was amazed to see what God is doing there. Honestly, it is too easy to preach in a place where the hunger of the people is so great that it gets the attention of the Father.

Almost every time that God wanted to bring Israel back to Him, He called youth and young adults. These people became History Makers and the nation of Israel would never be the same after them.

Last year, I was praying about the Freshwind Conference, and God spoke to me so powerfully that I was shaken by His voice. He said, “I will use the next generation to bring North America and Europe back to Me.” We are seeing this happen here. God is using the youth and young adults to change the spiritual reality of a state. So if you are a youth or young adult in these days, I’d like to challenge you.

Listen to the voice of God. He is calling you to make a difference in your area in your country.

We can see in the Bible how God used young people like Joshua, Samuel, David, John the Baptist, Paul, Peter and others, and in more recent history, young people like Martin Luther, Savonarola, Wesley, Finney, and so many others as well. This time, history will happen through you.
